Candidates must:
- Abide by the Universal Code of Conduct and respect Friendly Space Policy;
- Publish content about their candidacy and election events only in online spaces where it is welcome by the space organizers;
- Answer all the required questions in the application to be eligible for candidacy.
- Disclose any and all perceived, potential, or actual conflict of interest situations that could affect their work in the Wikimedia movement ecosystem;
- Campaign as an individual, not as a group of candidates; and
- Follow the rules of participating in events as set out by the event organisers (i.e., if organisers ask candidates not to campaign, then that must be respected).
Candidates are expected to:
- Attend the Conversation with the Candidates session organized by the Elections Committee as coordinated with the candidates.
Candidates must not:
- Attend Board of Trustees election-oriented community meet-ups[1] without prior approval from the Elections Committee. The Committee will ordinarily approve attendance at events but may impose limitations if the nature, size, or number of events would be unfair to other candidates. Requests for attendance must be made a reasonable time in advance.
- Use their candidate statements[2] to link to lists of endorsements or content meant to circumvent the word count (e.g. blogs, Google Docs, pages, etc.).[3]
Reporting violations of these guidelines
[edit]An election violation report (“complaint”) should cover the following information:
- Which candidate(s) violated the campaign rules;
- When the violation happened/first observed;
- Whether the violation happened online, offline, in a space hosted by a third party, or a mix of spaces;
- Any evidence supporting the complaint
- Preferably linking to the original source of that material
- Screenshots can be provided if original source is not accessible publicly
- A summary of the reasoning for the submission of this complaint.
Credibility and verifiability of a complaint should be investigated thoroughly. To help the Elections Committee in quickly assessing whether a complaint is credible or not, complainants are encouraged to state which campaign rule(s) that they allege the candidate has violated – although this is not a requirement, since the Elections Committee is ultimately responsible to decide on which violation(s) that they will charge to the candidate. Complaints that are known to be submitted in bad faith will not be entertained.
Complaints may be submitted to:
- electcom
wikimedia.org; or
- through an on-wiki submission at Talk:Elections Committee
